The Norfolk State head coach sits down with Lawrencia “LaLa” Moten for a conversation about his playing career, fatherhood, leadership and building his legacy at an HBCU.
Michael Vick is looking beyond the football field.
The former NFL quarterback and current Norfolk State University head football coach will be the featured guest on an upcoming episode of “Beyond Ballin’,” hosted by Lawrencia “LaLa” Moten. The episode will air Saturday, Oct. 3 at 11 a.m. ET on HBCU GO, with an encore presentation following the Bounty Battle of the Real HU at 7 p.m. ET.
The timing puts Vick’s conversation squarely in the middle of a major day for HBCU football. Earlier that afternoon, Howard University and Hampton University will renew their historic rivalry at Audi Field in Washington, D.C., with the Battle of the Real HU kicking off at 3 p.m. ET.
The Norfolk State head coach’s conversation with Moten goes beyond his years as one of football’s most dynamic quarterbacks, exploring the experiences that shaped him on and off the field and how those lessons inform his life as a coach, father and mentor.
“What happens when the game ends, but your story is far from over?” the episode description asks.
Vick reflects on his groundbreaking football career, the evolution of the quarterback position, lessons learned through success and adversity, family and fatherhood, leadership and mentorship, and the legacy he hopes to leave with the next generation.
His appearance also comes as Vick continues his transition from NFL star to HBCU head coach. He was named Norfolk State’s head football coach in December 2024, taking over a program with a long history in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
For Vick, the next chapter is about more than wins and losses. It is about what he can pass on to the players following behind him — and what remains after the playing career ends.
“Beyond Ballin’” explores the intersection of sports, culture, business and life beyond athletics, bringing viewers closer to the people behind the athletes.
