One of Purdue football's greats has a rough time dealing with the Boilermakers' current woes.

Jim Everett, who twice eclipsed 3,000 passing yards in a season (1984, '85) before playing in the NFL for 12 years, took to social media to implore school administration to spend more on football, reasoning that a better team would help the university down the road.

"(T)he next president has to know what a competitive football roster costs now, what a coach is worth, & what an empty Saturday does to donations, applications, & how Indiana sees us," Everett wrote. "Engineering built the reputation. Football carries it into the living room. Ignore it & the living room changes the channel."

Purdue is searching for a replacement for Mung Chiang, the president from 2023 to the end of the 2025-26 academic year. Previous president Mitch Daniels (2013-22) has returned on an interim basis. Tommy McClelland was named Purdue athletic director in August 2026.

Purdue has gone 8-32 since the start of the 2023 season under coaches Ryan Walters (2022-23) and Barry Odom (2025-present). This year's Boilermakers are 1-3 as they head to Illinois on Saturday, Oct. 3.

Coach Jeff Brohm led the Boilermakers to four bowl games between 2017-22.
