College football fans took notice as President Donald Trump announced he’s set to attend the highly anticipated SEC matchup between the Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa.

Trump made the announcement at an October 2 rally at the University of South Alabama’s Mitchell Center in Mobile. His planned appearance has already created plenty of discussion among fans, with some focusing on the football implications and others on the expected security measures.

Trump’s visit comes during a busy stretch of campaign appearances on behalf of Republican candidates ahead of the midterms. It will also mark his second high-profile college football appearance in the span of two weeks after he attended the Texas-Tennessee game at Neyland Stadium.

Trump previously attended three Alabama games: the 2018 National Championship, the 2019 LSU-Alabama matchup, and the 2024 Georgia-Alabama game.

His latest visit has drawn additional attention because of his connection to the memorable 2017 Alabama-Georgia title game.

Fans quickly took to social media to react to the announcement.

Host of Pigskin Frenzy Joel Norris asked, “What if he’s Guest Picker on GameDay for this one?”

CFB analyst Nick Perkins wrote, “Open the stadium early like Tennessee did, and I have no problem with this.”

Other fans had a few things to say. One wrote, “He seems to have lots of time for sports,” while another simply declared, “Georgia is cooked.”

One commenter pointed to Trump’s history with the matchup, writing, “He has history with this matchup. Trump was at the Alabama-Georgia national championship game that closed the 2017 season, so next Saturday is round two for him.”

Another fan focused on the potential impact of the presidential visit on game-day logistics, writing, “Have fun everyone with those security lines lol.”

Analyst Joe Warchola also joked about the broadcast, writing, “RIP to Kirk Herbstreit’s microphone.”

Another fan referenced Trump’s previous appearance at a college football game and wrote, “Trump says he’ll be back for another football game. I’m guessing the White House audio team has already been assigned. Last time, the crowd booed, and Trump heard a standing ovation.”

Security Could Be a Major Concern for Fans

While the Alabama-Georgia matchup is already expected to draw a massive crowd, Trump’s presence will add another layer of security around Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Fans attending the game could face additional security screening, including extended perimeter checks and restricted access areas.

The increased security presence could also lead to longer wait times for fans entering the stadium.

Perkins previously suggested opening the stadium gates several hours earlier than usual to help avoid major bottlenecks before kickoff.

With Alabama and Georgia set to meet in one of the biggest games on the college football schedule, Trump’s planned appearance has given fans another talking point ahead of kickoff.
