Two more visits set for Texas WR commit Easton Royal

Earlier this week, longtime Texas Longhorns wide receiver commit Easton Royal was close to a decision after taking gameday visits this fall to see the LSU Tigers and Florida Gators in addition to seeing the Longhorns beat the Ohio State Buckeyes in Week 2.

“Since I’ve been to every school, every game day, every experience, every coaching staff, I’m very close to a decision” Royal told Rivals. “Maybe an announcement could be coming anytime soon.”

But that decision no longer seems as imminent with Royal planning visits for two more games — traveling to Austin once again to see Texas take on Florida on October 17 and heading back to Gainesville as the Gators host the Gamecocks.

The fact that the consensus five-star prospect is going to see first-year head coach Jon Sumrall’s program play two weeks in a row feels like a bad sign for Texas in its attempt to hold onto Royal’s pledge — Florida seems like it has the most momentum after Royal saw the Gators upset the Rebels last weekend in Gainesville.

LSU also remains in the mix, sending ace recruiter Ed Orgeron and wide receivers coach Georgie McDonald out to Royal’s game on Friday night as Brother Martin took on Edna Karr.

Texas wide receivers coach Chris Jackson was also present in Hammond.

Royal rose up to meet the moment, hauling in a touchdown pass late in the first half and setting up another score with a 19-yard pass in the third quarter.

Royal is ranked as the No. 5 player nationally and the No. 1 wide receiver in the 247Sports Composite rankings, making him the highest-rate pledge in the 2027 Texas recruiting class.
