Class AAA football roundup: NLS Wildcats cranks up the 'D' on Montevideo Thunder Hawks

Oct. 2—MONTEVIDEO — The New London-Spicer football team put together two strong halves to beat the Montevideo Thunder Hawks 35-6.

NLS (3-2) led 21-0 at halftime in the Mid West Central Black District game on Friday.

The Wildcats held the Thunder Hawks (0-5) to 110 yards on 45 plays.

Meanwhile, Gage Pederson and Luke Hannig picked up quarterback sacks for NLS. Hannig led the Wildcats with six tackles, including five solo. Pederson had five tackles.

Wide receiver Weston Steele and quarterback Ethan Nelson connected on three scores. Steele wound up with TD catches of 21, 13 and 47 yards, finishing with five catches for 119 yards. Nelson also ran one yard for a score. He completed 10 of 16 passes for 146 yards with two interceptions.

NLS faces Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted at 7 p.m. next Friday in Howard Lake. Montevideo hosts Dassel-Cokato at 7 p.m. next Friday.

Corbin Long kicked a 28-yard field as time expired to lift Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted past Litchfield at Howard Lake.

Lakers quarterback Hunter Bush completed 11 of 21 passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran in another TD from one yard out. His scoring passes went for 61 yards to Alex Stueven and 32 yards to Riley Noethe. Stueven finished with seven receptions for 144 yards.

HLWW running back Benjamin Getz rushed 16 times for 92 yards and a TD.

For Litchfield, Anthony Taylor rushed 25 times for 123 yards and three touchdowns. Senior kicker Bladimir Becerra-Serrato had field goals of 32 and 31 yards and made one point-after kick.

In the fourth quarter with Litchfield trailing 28-20, Taylor scored on a one-yard run. He then caught a two-point conversion pass from Jayden Fenrich to tie it up. HLWW then got the ball into field goal range for the game-winner.

Litchfield takes on Morris/Chokio-Alberta at 7 p.m. next Friday at Big Cat Stadium in Morris.

Holdingford quarterback Andrew D'Incau threw for two touchdowns and ran for another in the Huskers' win over Minnewaska at Holdingford.

Holdingford is ranked ninth in Class AA.

D'Incau completed 6 of 16 passes for 126 yards. Running back Austin Terpstra ran 19 times for 130 yards and a score for the Huskers.

Alex Adams ran the ball 17 times for 46 yards, including a three-yard touchdown, for the Lakers.

Minnewaska hosts Sauk Centre at 7 p.m. next Friday at Veterans Field in Glenwood.
