Michigan Wolverines football HC Kyle Whittingham wants to see more passion and enthusiasm Saturday as Michigan football now looks to respond to last week’s 20-19 loss to the Iowa Hawkeyes. The Wolverines fell on the final play at Michigan Stadium, dropping to 3-1 overall and 0-1 in Big Ten play.

Big Noon Kickoff took to its official X account, formerly Twitter, Saturday morning with a clip of FOX Sports’ Jenny Taft asking Whittingham what he wants from the Wolverines vs. the Minnesota Golden Gophers this afternoon.

“We just got to play with passion and enthusiasm, and and every week’s a new challenge. And like I said, win or lose, you got to be ready for the next one.”

The Wolverines out-gained the Hawkeyes 429-285, but penalties and missed red-zone opportunities proved costly. Starting QB Bryce Underwood completed 17 of 28 passes for a career-high 276 yards and two touchdowns, though he also threw a red-zone interception.

Iowa drove 91 yards in 11 plays on their final possession. Hank Brown found Reece Vander Zee for a 16-yard touchdown as time expired, erasing the Wolverines’ 19-14 lead.

Whittingham now faces his first road game Saturday as the Wolverines’ coach. Minnesota enters Saturday 3-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play after a 27-24 win vs. the Washington Huskies on the road.

The Little Brown Jug is also at stake. The Wolverines have won the past five meetings and have not lost the rivalry trophy since 2014.

A victory would give the former Utah Utes head coach his first Big Ten win with the Wolverines and move the team to 4-1 on the season. Saturday also gives Michigan its first chance to respond after surrendering a late lead in last week’s loss to Iowa.
