Georgia football managed to get its top running back in for some snaps during the Bulldogs' SEC game versus Vanderbilt on Saturday, Oct. 19.
Junior Nate Frazier was listed as a game time decision after missing the 41-13 win over Oklahoma on Saturday, Sept. 26, due to an injury with his ribs. In his place, juniors Chauncey Bowens and Dwight Phillips carried the load. Bowens carried nine times for 26 yards and two touchdowns, and Phillips carried eight times for 84 yards, including a 54-yard touchdown run, against the Sooners
With the Commodores in town, Frazier collected two carries for nine yards. He had warmed up with the team, fielding punts, and was the first running back in line during pregame drills, but when the first team offense was warming up before going to the locker room, Bowens and Phillips remained on top.
Bowens took a bit of a hit in the second quarter headed into halftime and limp-ran to the locker room with his arm around an athletic trainer, but he quickly returned in the third quarter. Bowens recorded 10 carries for 31 yards and a touchdown, as well as three receptions for 18 yards against Vanderbilt.
Phillips recorded five receptions for 75 yards and one touchdown, as well as five carries for 27 yards against Vanderbilt.
"The plan was to play him if we needed to," head coach Kirby Smart said postgame. "Chauncey was a little banged up and that was the scenario we thought we would use (Nate) in. He went some, probably could've continued to play but elected not to as we scored and did some things. Hopefully he'll continue to get better. We knew he would improve every time that he doesn't have to go out there, and he's getting closer to 100 percent."
