The Ohio State Buckeyes put the clamps on Iowa in Iowa City, winning 31-14 on a record-setting day for Jeremiah Smith. Coach Ryan Day made a classy gesture to the Iowa program before sharing his thoughts on Smith’s best attribute after the big win.
Day spoke to a reporter after the game, sharing his thoughts on his star receiver and Heisman Trophy candidate.
“As you could imagine, drawing plays up for him is a lot of fun. But the most amazing thing about Jeremiah Smith is his work ethic every day. How much he loves to win, how competitive he is, the way he works every day, the example he sets. Not only is he a great player, he’s become a great leader. I’ve challenged him before, like it isn’t just about you, it’s about the team. And he’s been brought up that way his whole life, that’s just his mindset.

“And so there’s a whole generation of young people watching him…I think the guys feed off of (his performances)…This is the best player in the country right here.”
The Buckeyes rolled despite missing a crucial piece on their offensive line. Day’s team proved Nick Saban right as they made life uncomfortable for Hawkeyes QB Hank Brown all day.
Week 6’s road test against Malik Washington and the Maryland Terrapins will lead up to Week 7’s colossal showdown against Curt Cignetti’s Indiana Hoosiers. Day and Smith are trending toward another College Football Playoff performance, now the task will be to keep up the good work as new challengers lie in wait.
