Colorado may be headed back to the drawing board at quarterback after its 29-7 loss to No. 12 Texas Tech on Saturday night.
Head coach Deion Sanders started backup quarterback Isaac Wilson instead of former starter Julian Lewis. Wilson led the team downfield for a touchdown on the opening drive, but the momentum didn't last.
Wilson and Colorado led 7-3 at halftime, but the quarterback threw three second-half interceptions as Texas Tech not only pulled off a comeback but then extended its lead to double digits in the fourth quarter. The Buffaloes also ran a trick play early in the second half, and wide receiver Joseph Williams threw an interception.
The quarterback's night was perfectly summarized by his third second-half interception. The Red Raiders had downed a punt at the 1-yard line. Rather than bulldoze the line to gain space, Wilson scrambled and attempted a pass. It was intercepted in the end zone for an instant pick 6.

Wilson is in his first season at Colorado after starting his college career at Utah. He entered the season after playing in 10 games and throwing for 1,510 yards, 10 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
At the start of the season, he was the No. 2 quarterback behind Lewis. Through four games and a 2-2 start, Lewis had thrown for 733 yards, 6 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.
Sanders tried to shake things up against Texas Tech, and it looked like a great call. Wilson led the Buffaloes down the field for an opening-drive score, hitting Joseph Williams for an 8-yard touchdown.
Wilson played sparingly earlier this year in a blowout win against Weber State. He then came in for Lewis at halftime last week in the 10-point loss to Baylor. Wilson finished that game with 156 yards and a touchdown, but that, along with this week of practice, convinced Sanders to start him against Texas Tech on Saturday night.
Wilson finished Saturday's loss 26-of-44 passing for 292 yards, 1 touchdown and 3 interceptions. He added 40 yards on 17 carries. Wilson took a hard hit with 14 seconds left and came out, forcing freshman Kaneal Sweetwyne to take the final snap.
Now, Sanders will have another quarterback decision to make for the team's next game on Oct. 17 against Utah, after a week off.
