Florida's Jon Sumrall 'Livid' After Loss to Missouri

The No. 8 Florida Gators entered Saturday's game against No. 25 Missouri in a vulnerable position, much like the team they faced last week when Ole Miss traveled to Gainesville one week after winning an emotionally charged contest against LSU in Week 3.

Florida didn't handle its business against the Tigers and will be heading home with a 4-1 record after being pushed around in a 45-17 blowout in front of 63,609 fans at Memorial Stadium in Columbia, Missouri.

The Gators’ loss to Missouri felt weeks in the making. Miscues that Florida had committed most of the season but got away with in September caught up to the Gators on Saturday, and the Tigers took advantage to hand Jon Sumrall his first loss at UF.

Florida was penalized twice as much at Mizzou. Those eight flags for 80 yards were costly. The secondary allowed Tigers quarterback Austin Simmons to throw all over them. He went 23 of 30 passing for 240 yards and two touchdowns.

UF's run defense wasn't great. With Missouri running back Ahmad Hardy ruled out against Florida for a lower-body injury, Jamal Roberts rushed for 211 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries.

Missouri finished the day with 560 total yards to Florida's 325. During his postgame news conference, Sumrall told reporters he was livid with the way his team played against the Tigers.

"I’m sick to my freaking stomach with what we just did, like, livid," Sumrall said, via Gator Country.

The Gators made huge gains in the rankings in the last two weeks, going from being unranked before playing Auburn to No. 8 this week. Florida was gaining momentum to make a case for the College Football Playoff, but the team has some soul-searching to do before the schedule heats up in October.

Sumrall and Florida will have a chance to correct issues with penalties and the secondary when they host a 2–3 South Carolina program next week. Then the Gators will finish the month at No. 1 Texas and against No. 2 Georgia.

Is Aaron Philo the guy?

One of the questions coming into Saturday was what Florida would do if the running game struggled and Aaron Philo had to do more than manage a game.

The results Saturday were not good.

Running back Jadan Baugh came into Saturday's contest second in the nation in rushing with 600 yards and 11 touchdowns. He'll continue to trail Nate Sheppard (with 644 yards) after Duke's bye this weekend, as Baugh rushed for 13 yards on 12 carries.

Philo went 21 of 34 passing for 197 yards and one touchdown. He missed several key passes. He was benched for Tramell Jones Jr., who completed all five of his passes for 86 yards and one touchdown.
