At this time a week ago, the Florida Gators were celebrating a dominant win over the Ole Miss Rebels, where they looked like one of the best teams in college football. Now, they’re licking their wounds from a blowout loss to the Missouri Tigers, and head coach Jon Sumrall is not happy.

Following the team’s lopsided loss to Missouri, Sumrall admitted that he felt “sick to my stomach” at the way the game went, as his team did not perform up to expectations.

Florida Gets Blown Out

A week after a blowout victory over Ole Miss that thrust the Gators into the top-10 of the AP Poll, Florida had quite a letdown game against Missouri on Saturday afternoon.

Missouri did basically whatever it wanted against Florida when it had the ball. Austin Simmons threw for 340 yards and two touchdowns while Jamal Roberts ran for 211 yards and three more scores. Cayden Lee had eight catches for 110 yards as the Tigers racked up an eye-popping 560 yards of total offense to give coach Eli Drinkwitz his first regular-season win over a top-10 team in 11 tries.

Meanwhile, the Florida offense was a shell of itself. Gators quarterback Aaron Philo threw for 197 yards and a touchdown, but much of his production came with the game mostly decided. Running back Jadan Baugh, who had been receiving some early Heisman Trophy hype over the past few days, had 12 carries for just 13 yards. Florida had been averaging 532.8 yards of offense heading into the game, putting up 44 or more points in every game. On Saturday, they had 325 yards and 17 points.

‘Embarrassing performance’

After the game, Sumrall did not hold back as he gave some rather candid thoughts on his team’s performance.

“We did not play to our standard. Embarrassing performance,” Sumrall said via On3. “I’m sick to my stomach with what we just did.”

Sumrall seemed exceptionally concerned about the defense, which seemed to give up points and yards with ease.

“We haven’t played to the standard we need to play at a lot there this year,” he said. “The problem right now is it’s different guys giving things up.”

The Gators will have a chance to bounce back next week with a game against the South Carolina Gamecocks.
