There weren’t a lot of bright spots for Penn State in last Friday’s blowout loss at Northwestern.

But, ironically, one of those came at the wide receiver position.

The Lions are without Koby Howard for at least another week, but Penn State had a reliable receiver against the Wildcats.

Chase Sowell tied for the team high in catches (five) and led the Lions in receiving yards (68).

He caught a 16-yard touchdown pass late in the game. His catch on the first offensive play of the game put Penn State in position to get some early points, though that drive fizzled out.

If Penn State has any hopes of knocking off USC on Saturday night, Sowell will have to have another strong game.

Others Considered

Josiah Zayas, Cornerback: The freshman continues to make plays for the Lions. He recovered a fumble in the second quarter that set up Penn State’s touchdown that cut the Northwestern lead to 10-7.

Your Weekend: At least we got that out of the way on Friday night. Weather was great here and I had a stress free Saturday.
