No. 8 Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) race to the CIF-SS Div. I championship took them through arguably the toughest schedule in the nation. In the title game, the Eagles were tasked once more with taking on a top-10 team: No. 2 Centennial (Corona, Calif.), a team the Eagles beat in overtime earlier in the season without top wide receiver Trent Mosley.
This time, they had Mosley. And this time, they didn’t need overtime.
Santa Margarita won 42-7, the largest point discrepancy in this conference’s highest division since 1993, according to the Orange County Register. Mosley was the hero in the game, posting more than 300 total yards as he ran Centennial ragged and lifted the trophy following the win.
The four-star USC commit had 303 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns to go with 10 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground on four carries, according to MaxPreps. His receiving scores were game-breakers, going for an 80-yard score on a fade route in which he blew by a defender, and a 91-yard screen pass in which he picked up his blocks and bolted down the sideline.

Quarterback Trace Johnson finished the game with 396 passing yards and four touchdowns.
The defense dominated Centennial’s offense, holding the Huskies to a single touchdown and forcing three fumbles. Three-star Arizona linebacker commit Dash Fifita was credited with five tackles and seven assisted, 3.5 tackles for loss and pair of sacks to go with a forced fumble. Sophomore Ryan Clark, a WR/FS, scored a touchdown on offense and forced a fumble on defense; freshman DE Kingston Jimmerson also forced a fumble.
With the win, Santa Margarita improves its record to 10-3 and has asserted itself as the best team in California. With both No. 2 Centennial and No. 1 Grayson losing, the Eagles will be eying how the wide-open Super 25 national rankings shift in the coming days and weeks.
