When the Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs collide Saturday night in Tuscaloosa, the game will certainly not be lacking for any potential storylines.
Not only is this a Top 10 showdown, but it is the latest in a series that is rich with ranked matchups across the last 10 years alone. This will also be Kalen DeBoer's fourth game against Georgia since becoming Alabama's head coach in 2024, as well as the third meeting in the last two years.
In addition to that, this latest matchup also features the key weather storyline of Hurricane Isaias and its' potential impact on the game, but when looking at the on-field action alone, what are some of the storylines that could end up deciding this game?
Let's take a look at three Alabama on-field storylines for Saturday night's undefeated showdown against Georgia.
Can Alabama run the ball on Georgia's defense?
An area where the Crimson Tide struggled last season, Alabama currently ranks seventh in the SEC with an average of 186.4 rushing yards per game, but can they run it on the Bulldogs this year after finishing with only 114 yards over two games a year ago? This will be the Crimson Tide's toughest test yet this season on the ground, doing so against a Georgia defense that is allowing the SEC's fewest rushing yards to opponents at 57.4 per game.
How will Alabama's defense perform against the run?
On the inverse, can Alabama's defense slow down a Georgia running game that racked up a combined 368 yards in two games against the Tide a year ago? Likely the toughest test yet for Alabama's defensive front in terms of talent at running back and offensive line on the other side of the ball, Georgia comes into Saturday's matchup ranking fifth in the SEC with an average of 213 yards per game, while the Crimson Tide rank No. 3 in the conference by allowing only 78.6 a contest to opponents.
Can Alabama start fast against Georgia again?
A common theme of the past two regular season matchups between the Crimson Tide and Bulldogs, can Alabama start fast against Georgia once again? In Tuscaloosa two years ago, Alabama jumped out to 21-0 lead in the first quarter, which eventually resulted in a 30-7 at halftime, and then did the same a year ago in Athens with a 24-14 advantage at the half.
