With Iron Bowl win, Alabama football secures SEC championship bid vs Georgia

AUBURN — Alabama football is heading to Atlanta.

With a 27-20 win against Auburn in the Iron Bowl Saturday, Nov. 29, the Crimson Tide secured a trip to the SEC championship game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta against Georgia.

It's Alabama's first conference championship appearance in the Kalen DeBoer era, who led Washington to a Pac-12 championship in 2023, and Sioux Falls to four straight Great Plains Athletic Conference championships from 2006-09.

Alabama will take on Georgia at 3 p.m. CT Saturday, Dec. 6. The game will be broadcast on ABC.

Another SEC championship, another rematch between DeBoer and Kirby Smart.

Alabama will face Georgia for the second time in 2025 in the SEC championship game. The Crimson Tide won the first bout Saturday, Sept. 27, ending a 33-game home win streak for the Bulldogs at Sanford Stadium and continuing a three-game win streak against Georgia.

Next week's game will be Alabama's fifth meeting with Georgia in the SEC championship game. The Crimson Tide has won all four other matchups in 2012, 2018, 2021 and 2023.

Alabama football SEC championship history

No team has played in more SEC championship games than Alabama.

Starting by appearing and winning the first SEC championship game in 1992, beating Florida 28-21, Alabama will appear in its 16th conference title game, three more than any other team in the SEC.

Alabama has won 11 of 15 previous appearances in the SEC championship and has nine straight wins dating back to 2009. The Crimson Tide's last loss came against Florida in 2008.
