Stanford football is back on the road this week to take on No. 3 Notre Dame. Ahead of the game, the program named its three captains who will lead the charge against the Fightin' Irish with quarterback Davis Warren, safety Darrius Davis and linebacker Bo Tate serving as the three players who received the honor.

Warren, the offensive captain, has enjoyed a strong bounce-back season on The Farm. Transferring from Michigan after five seasons in Ann Arbor, he has been a reliable starter for the Cardinal. Through five games, he has 1,207 yards, five touchdown passes and only one interception and has done a great job of protecting the football.

He started nine games for Michigan in 2024, going 6-3 and registering 1,199 passing yards, seven passing touchdowns and nine interceptions. He was a medical redshirt last season and did not see any action.

Davis, a junior safety from Metairie, Louisiana, has been a depth player for a majority of his career but has taken on a bigger role this season. Through five games, he has 21 total tackles and recorded his first career interception against Duke. The Cardinal's defense has struggled in a lot of ways this season, but Davis is emerging as a real bright spot.

Davis was a three-star recruit coming out of high school and received offers from several other schools including Marshall, Columbia and Cornell but opted to join Stanford because of its elite education and the chance to play Power Four football.

Tate is the captain of the special teams unit and is being featured on defense for the first time in his career. After not seeing any action the last two seasons, he has five total tackles on the season while being a key force on special teams. A standout at Corner Canyon High School in Draper, Utah, he was ranked as the No. 57 overall prospect for his class.

Tate guided his school to a state championship in 2023 and compiled 250 tackles, seven forced fumbles and four interceptions over the course of his high school career.

Notre Dame is a national title contender and will be Stanford's toughest test of the season so far. The program will enter South Bend as the heavy underdogs, but if the Cardinal can be competitive and play a good game, it will give the team something to build off for the future.

Kickoff for the Legends Trophy game is set for 12:30 p.m. (PT) and will air nationally on NBC.

The Cardinal and Fightin' Irish will meet for the 40th time in history this weekend. Notre Dame leads the series 25-14, with the first matchup taking place on January 1, 1925. Notre Dame won that game 27-10.

The two programs have played each other in every single season since 1997, except for the COVID-shortened 2020 season when the Cardinal played only West Coast games.

The Cardinal return to The Farm next week for their homecoming game against Elon, an FCS program. That game is set for 4:30 p.m. (PT) and will air on ACCNX.
