Many contending teams in the Big Ten will need their star players to show up this week as conference play heats up with some high-profile games. This week will also reveal the top quarterbacks in the Big Ten. A few conference games will feature some intriguing quarterback battles.
Here are the players to watch in Week 6 of Big Ten football:
Demond Williams will get the best of the Iowa Hawkeyes' defense
The Hawkeyes defense did their best to slow down the Heisman favorite Jeremiah Smith, and he still put up 206 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns. This defense looked human against a really good Buckeyes team. Demond Williams was once looked at as a Heisman candidate. This season he has not met that standard, but with the Huskies back against the wall, what better game than this week's to get back to that play. I think Demond Williams will have his best game of the season against Iowa and help his team get back on the right track. This game is at home, where Demond has delivered some Heisman-level performances. I expect this week to be a great week for Demond and the Huskies.
Drake Lindsey will bounce back
Lindsey threw 2 interceptions last week, and it was an up-and-down performance by him against an elite Michigan Wolverines defense. The Gophers still won, and the momentum is high. This week, against a Purdue Boilermakers defense that has given up a ton of points, Lindsey will be elite. Lindsey will get another 3-passing-touchdown performance, and he will lead the Gophers to an impressive 5-1 start.
Caleb Komolafe will establish himself as a top Big Ten back
Komolafe, of Northwestern, is coming off a statement performance against Penn State last week. He ran for 188 yards and a touchdown, propelling Northwestern to a blowout win in the Wildcats' new stadium. Things will not slow down for him against Ball State, and I think he will run for 200 yards. He will add his name to the conversation of the best running backs in the Big Ten.
Dylan Raiola will play well again as the starter for Oregon
Raiola displayed some great character and leadership in Week 4 against USC. Raiola is experienced, and he can show up in the big games. This is another test for the Ducks in Week 6 against UCLA. The Bruins, I think, will win, but Raiola will give them everything he has. Raiola will be the best quarterback on the field, and he will put together another great stat line.
Anthony Colandrea will become a household name in the Big Ten this week
Nebraska is 5-0, and the Cornhuskers are not ranked. Many are not taking the Huskers seriously, nor are they giving credit to Anthony Colandrea, who has been special this season. Colandrea will give doubters no choice but to respect him with another great performance this week. The Cornhuskers will not pull off an upset, but they will give the Indiana Hoosiers a battle. Colandrea will play extremely well.
