Welcome back from the bye week and welcome back to Nashville! I understand Pete Golding wanting the taste of that nasty Gator defeat to stay with his team, but us fans having to dwell on it for two weeks just sucks. The wait it finally over and it is now time to see how this team responds when they get kicked in the teeth.
Jared Curtis, the five star quarterback that spurned Georgia for Vanderbilt, missed the Commodores’ contest against the Bulldogs last week due to injury. Perhaps the Dawgs were sleepwalking, but Vandy was only down 21-14 at the half, only to be blanked in the second half on their way to their second straight SEC loss.
The injury report has two big names trending towards playing in this one as both Curtis and Kewan Lacy look set to return.
Ole Miss has won five straight in this series and six of the last seven. SEC road games are no joke no matter the opponent, and this is not the Vanderbilt of old. This game comes down to the Rebel defense living up to the potential and getting the ball back into the hands of their Heisman candidate quarterback early and often.
The Commodores offense is spearheaded by Curtis, Junior Sherrill and Sedrick Alexander. Not quite the level of Trinidad Chambliss, Lacy and Deuce Alexander, but still a formidable threat. It will be interesting to see if there are any changes to the defensive rotation, but based on the names on the roster, I would not expect a major shakeup.
Here’s to getting back in the win column and a stat padding game for Mr. Chambliss.
