New USC freshman will emerge with breakout game against Penn State

It may not have been the most productive game for a USC freshman this season, but last week Boobie Feaster built some confidence against Washington. It was a clear step forward for Feaster, who had 3 catches for 26 yards in Week 5.

The Trojans have had freshmen step up all season long. Many have been waiting for Feaster to emerge. My hot take of the week for Week 6 is that Feaster will be the best freshman on the field for the Trojans against Penn State. It will be a hostile environment, but Feaster should be able to thrive in that situation. Against Oregon, he had a big 27-yard catch. Against Penn State, he will eclipse 100 receiving yards and find the end zone for the first time this season.

He is a perfect weapon for Lincoln Riley's offense, and now that he has shown Jayden Maiava that he can be a reliable target, it is now his time to put it all together. Penn State's defense will have to deal with an accurate quarterback in Jayden Maiava and a run game that can break them down. That is where Feaster can make his money, getting a couple of big catches after a big run by King Miller or Waymond Jordan.

The Trojans' freshman class has been nothing short of special, but if Feaster can have his breakout game in a must-win game for USC, that class can further etch its greatness. With his lack of production, many will not expect Feaster to be the top target, and that bodes well for him to have a big game.

With the ascension of Boobie Feaster, after this week it will no longer be a debate that the Trojans have the best freshman in the country and one of the top nuclei of young players in the country. This game for Feaster will just be the beginning as well.
