USC:
The Trojans defeated the Washington Huskies 25-21 last Saturday improving to 5-1.
Jordan Maiava completed 61.8% of his passes for a season-low 245 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. However, Maiava ranks second in the Big Ten with 290.7 pass yards/game this season, behind only Ohio State’s Julian Sayin (306 yds/game).
USC's defense showed signs of improvement in the win allowing just 21 points and sacking Huskies QB Demond Williams five times.
USC has experienced just one loss this season, however, Saturday's game is crucial to keep the Trojans' College Football Playoff hopes alive. A loss this week means that USC would have to win out to have a CFP chance.
Penn State:
The Nittany Lions are coming off a 34-14 loss to the Northwestern Wildcats in Week 5. Rocco Becht completed 26-for-41 passing for 243 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.
“I'm not going to sulk and tell myself that I'm bad at football," Becht said after the loss. "My confidence is high. I know I can play my best football. I've played in a lot of games. I know how to win. It's maybe a detail here or there accuracy-wise. My confidence is super high and super high in this team. That's not going to waver."
On the ground, Penn State gave up 413 rush yards on 55 carries while rushing for only 48 yards.
The loss marked another significant hit to Penn State's postseason hopes, leaving the Nittany Lions with few opportunities to rebound in the College Football Playoff race.
