Sonya Curry, mother of NBA star Stephen Curry, has married again, announcing the news in a personal Instagram post reflecting on grief, faith and a new beginning.
The 60-year-old shared wedding photographs on Friday, October 9, revealing that her relationship developed during a difficult period in her life. She has not publicly identified her new husband, and comments on the Instagram post were turned off.
In her announcement, Curry looked back on the past seven years, including the unexpected death of her mother a year ago. She said the man who would become her husband entered her life around the same time.
“Eight months later, I was blessed with becoming his wife!” she wrote, describing the marriage as an answer to prayers about the kind of partner she hoped to find.
Curry also expressed gratitude to family members, friends, and others who supported her throughout the process. She revealed that the wedding came together in just nine weeks, thanking those who helped make the occasion possible.
Her message drew on passages from the Bible, including Ecclesiastes 3, which reflects on the changing seasons of life. She encouraged others not to lose hope while waiting for their own prayers to be answered, extending that message beyond relationships to other personal challenges.
The marriage comes five years after Sonya and former NBA player Dell Curry announced their separation in August 2021, ending a relationship that had lasted more than three decades. The former couple shares three children: Stephen, fellow professional basketball player Seth Curry, and Sydel Curry-Lee.
Dell has also remarried since the split. He confirmed his marriage to his second wife, Nicki, in 2023.
