The Oklahoma Sooners put themselves in position to make the College Football Playoff with a 17-13 win over the LSU Tigers, moving to 10-2 on the season. It wasn't pretty, but it was a strong finish to a huge season for the Sooners.
With the win, Brent Venables secured his second 10-win season as a head coach. Led by his defense, the Sooners held LSU to 2 of 14 on third down and under 200 yards of total offense. Quarterback Michael Van Buren threw for less than 100 yards, and LSU averaged only 3.6 yards per play.
Quarterback John Mateer had to overcome three interceptions and a touchdown deficit in the second half to end the season on a four-game winning streak. The Sooners' offense did so with big plays to Deion Burks and Isaiah Sategna.
That's become a trademark of the Oklahoma offense over the last few weeks. They may not be able to find consistent offense, but with the speed they have at wide receiver, they can create enough offense to pull out close wins.
After the win, here's how social media reacted.
Positive Vibes Only
We just went 10-2 with THAT schedule. I don’t care how it looked. I’m gonna enjoy it.

All that matters is the Win
Ugly win, but I don’t really care.
Heard all the crap all offseason about how OU wasn’t going to do anything in SEC. Remember? They’re the next Nebraska.
10 wins is an incredible accomplishment with this schedule. So damn proud of what this team has accomplished.

OU Offense Came Up Clutch
For as bad as OU was on offense today, its 393 total yards is the most it has had in an SEC game this year.

The Score is the Only Thing
BV time.

Brent Venables is ahead of Lincoln Riley
There are doomsday scenarios for the Sooners, but as it stands today….
It’s likely that Brent Venables just made it to a CFP at Oklahoma before Lincoln Riley did at USC.
“The Mecca”, though…

Earned an Opportunity
Sooners end the regular season 10-2.
They did it against the toughest schedule in the country.
They did it with defense and special teams for the most part.
They absolutely earned their bid to the College Football Playoffs.

Sorry to the Haters
A lot of teams hoping OU loses this game.

Never Apologize for Winning
There was obviously a lot of bad but you never apologize for winning. This team is grimey as hell. Finding ways to win. Special stuff to pull it out. 10-2 vs. one of the toughest schedules in the country. Don’t get blinded by the extra shit.
