Does Rutgers play today? Scarlet Knights' schedule after Week 6 bye

Very little this season has gone well for Rutgers football.

That began with their season-opening game, losing to UMass in a way that made the Scarlet Knights a national punchline. Then came a loss to Boston College, a win over FCS-level Howard and a blowout loss to defending champion Indiana.

The biggest issue Greg Schiano’s team has faced is its defense – Travis Johansen’s unit hasn’t played well enough at all, although it has shown signs of improvement. Those signs have just been too inconsistent.

The Scarlet Knights also need better play from starting quarterback Dylan Lonergan, who struggled with turnovers his first three games before finally seeming to settle into the offense.

Still, Rutgers is 1-4 and staring at a hugely disappointing season that will bring ample speculation heading into the offseason.

Here's what's up next for Rutgers:

Does Rutgers play today?

The Scarlet Knights are off for a badly needed bye week.

It came at a crucial time as Schiano and the Scarlet Knights try to find corrections to the issues that have plagued them so far this season. It also gives several players who are dealing with injuries and ailments some time to heal up.

After the bye week, Rutgers will play at Maryland on Oct. 17 and then head to Evanston, Illinois to play Northwestern on Oct. 24 the following week.
