Stanford vs Notre Dame Odds, Betting Line, Point Spread

  • Stanford vs Notre Dame Spread: Notre Dame -39.5, Stanford +39.5
  • Stanford vs Notre Dame Over/Under: 55.5 Points
  • Stanford vs Notre Dame Moneyline: Stanford ML +4000

Aside from the win over Georgia Tech, Stanford has been abysmal this season, failing to score more than 10 points in three of its four games.

In the Cardinal’s latest matchup against Wake Forest, Davis Warren was unable to move the ball through the air, throwing for just 136 yards and failing to find the end zone.

Running back Micah Ford was also unable to get into a groove on the ground, averaging less than three yards per carry.

Stanford’s lack of production on offense has been on full display a quarter into the year, with the team entering Week 6 ranked well below league average in Success Rate, Explosiveness and Points Per Opportunity.

While the Cardinal excel at taking care of the ball, it hasn’t helped the offense stay ahead of the sticks, leading to plenty of early outs.

On the other side of the ball, Stanford has severely underwhelmed on defense, fielding a group that ranks outside the top 100 in Success Rate allowed, Explosiveness allowed, Defensive Finishing Drives and Havoc.

With the Cardinal front seven incapable of generating pressure while the secondary creates disruptions at a low rate, opposing offenses have had no issue moving the ball down the field consistently.

Barring a sudden turnaround, Stanford will continue to fall comfortably behind on the scoreboard while the defense allows opponents to set a scoring pace far too fast for Warren and company to keep up with.

Even though Notre Dame let North Carolina keep the score closer than the spread projected, the Fighting Irish still lit up the scoreboard, skating past the Tar Heels by a score of 37-26.

Quarterback CJ Carr has continued to strengthen his Heisman Trophy case in Notre Dame’s win over UNC, throwing for 234 yards and four touchdowns while completing 72.4% of his passes.

With Carr under center, the Fighting Irish have been surgical on offense, ranking near the top of the board in Success Rate, Finishing Drives and Havoc allowed.

While Notre Dame creates explosive plays at a low rate, Carr has had no issue with methodically moving the ball down the field, controlling the time of possession in the process.

Notre Dame’s stable of running backs has also started to find their footing, with Aneyas Williams, Nolan James Jr. and Jonaz Walton all averaging more than four yards per carry.

The combined production from the trio has given the Fighting Irish offense the versatility it needs to be dynamic, leading to a top-20 mark in Rushing Success Rate.

To help turn Notre Dame into a well-rounded contender capable of making a run to the National Championship, the Fighting Irish also excel on defense, ranking in the top half of the board in Success Rate allowed, EPA Per Play allowed, Points Per Opportunity allowed and Havoc.

While the injury to star cornerback Leonard Moore is noteworthy, the Fighting Irish are still loaded at every level of the field.

Even if Moore is unable to suit up while dealing with a concussion, Warren lacks the arm talent needed to pick apart Notre Dame’s gaps in coverage, making it easier for the Fighting Irish to roll.

The ability of Notre Dame’s defensive line to collapse the pocket will force Warren to get the ball out of his hands quicker than anticipated.

To make matters worse for Warren, the Cardinal offensive line has been unable to ward off pressure, plummeting to 122nd in pass protection.

When Warren is under duress, Stanford’s pass-catchers will have less time in the open field to create space, narrowing the width of his passing lanes and forcing him to thread the ball through tight windows with minimal success.

After an early out, getting the ball back will be a chore for the Cardinal.

Carr dices up defenses incapable of holding opponents in front of the sticks. With fewer possessions at Warren’s disposal, Stanford will see a decline in the total number of scoring opportunities, keeping the Cardinal under their team total.

Grabbing a 7.5 on the Cardinals team total is vital, locking in a key number while avoiding the possibility of getting burned by one score.

If the spread ticks back down to 37.5, diversify your risk by placing a separate wager on Notre Dame to cover the number as well.

Pick: Stanford Team Total Under 7.5
