Florida’s Week 10 loss to Georgia sent the Gators down five places on the USA TODAY Sports college football rerank, landing at No. 60.

Despite making the game competitive, losses all count the same this time of year, especially with Florida’s chances of reaching bowl eligibility quickly fading. A win over Kentucky next week might not do much, but it should inch the Gators slightly closer to cracking the top 50 once again. The big jump would come with an upset win over Ole Miss or Tennessee. The season finale versus Florida State could be the decider for both bowl eligibility and a top-50 finish.

Normally, Florida’s situation would erase all hope of such a strong finish, but the feeling is that Billy Gonzales opened the offense up more than Billy Napier’s game plan. The Gators were a converted first down or a completed catch away from pulling off the upset, and many feel the officials got a crucial call wrong that swung the game.

The door is still open for Florida, but time is running out.

USA TODAY Sports rerank Top 10

The top five of Indiana, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Alabama and Georgia stayed put, but the back half of the top 10 went through a couple of significant changes.

Georgia Tech suffered its first loss of the season, Vanderbilt lost to Texas and Miami blew it in overtime against SMU. All three dropped out of the top 10, allowing Oregon to climb one spot to No. 6, Mississippi and BYU jumped two spots apiece to Nos. 7 and 8, respectively, and Texas Tech and Notre Dame are the new additions, rounding out the top list.

SEC teams in USA TODAY Sports re-ranking

Besides the four SEC teams listed in the top 10 above, the conference has five more teams inside the top 25.

Oklahoma is the closest to breaking into the top 10 after beating Tennessee. The Sooners jumped nine spots to No. 11, and the Volunteers are clinging to a top-25 position at No. 24 following a 10-spot drop. The Longhorns also made a significant jump, moving up 15 places to No. 15, one spot ahead of the Commodores. The Missouri Tigers fell one spot to No. 19 on their bye week.

The other seven team in the conference are well outside the top 25. The LSU Tigers are down to No. 38 this week, the Mississippi State Bulldogs are No. 45 and Florida is the first team outside the top 50.

Somehow, four SEC teams have it worse than the Gators: No. 67 Kentucky, No. 69 Auburn, No. 73 South Carolina and No. 83 Arkansas. It just means more, right?

2025 Florida Gators USA TODAY Sports 136 team re-rank so far

Florida started the year just inside the top 25, nearly 10 spots below its preseason ranking in either major poll.

A 55-0 win over Long Island University in Week 1 didn’t sway the USA TODAY Sports re-rankers. The Gators climbed just one spot to No. 24 with a prove-it game against South Florida ahead. When USF upset Florida in Week 2, USA TODAY Sports dropped the Orange and Blue 16 places to No. 40.

Following another loss, to LSU, Florida dropped to No. 49 overall. After loss No. 3 to Miami, the Gators fell 15 spots to No. 64. Florida started its climb back up the rankings in Week 5, while on bye, albeit a one-spot ascent, but an upset victory over the Texas Longhorns sent the Gators up to No. 56 in the country.

Losing to Texas A&M in Week 8 led to an eight-spot drop, but the bye week brought a one-spot climb.

The Gators’ climb back toward relevance depends on how they handle this final stretch.
