MIAMI, Fla. – Following a bye week, the Miami Hurricanes remain atop the Associated Press’ new Top 25 college football rankings, bumping to No. 3.
It’s a new high for the Coral Gables program this season.
The Hurricanes received 1,594 points, including two first-place votes. The biggest cause-and-effect was formerly No. 1 Texas losing 27-24 to Oklahoma. Longhorns star quarterback Arch Manning threw two interceptions in the fourth quarter, including a 42-yard pick-six to Sooners senior safety Peyton Bowen. Texas had the second-worst drop – ranked No. 7.
It resulted in a new top five:
– No. 1: Georgia
– No. 2: Notre Dame
– No. 3: Miami (Fla.)
– No. 4: Ohio State
– No. 5: Indiana

Despite Alabama’s 20-17 loss to the Bulldogs on Saturday night, which included a controversial finish with a potential uncalled pass interference, the Crimson Tide remained at No. 6. Kentucky made the biggest jump from being outside the Top 25 to No. 15 following a 35-34 overtime win over formerly No. LSU; the Tigers had the biggest drop to No. 22 – only ahead of Boise State, SMU, and Northwestern.
Meanwhile, the Florida Gators completely fell out because of a 38-19 loss to South Carolina in The Swamp (Ben Hill Griffin Stadium).
The Hurricanes benefited in the latest rankings from not playing. They will return to the field this upcoming Saturday for an in-state rivalry clash against the Florida State Seminoles on prime time; kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. E.T. and will be televised on ESPN. Coming off a 44-20 loss against Louisville on Friday, the Hurricanes had an opportunity to study live-game film and better prepare.
As one of nine Football Bowl Subdivision teams to remain undefeated, the only one in the Atlantic Coast Conference, head coach Mario Cristobal can continue to lead “The U” to dominance. The Hurricanes are projected as favorites in six of the seven remaining games on the regular season schedule – underdogs against the Fighting Irish at South Bend, Indiana.
They remain the only ranked opponent looking ahead. However, Cristobal prefers to keep the Hurricanes focused on the present. The Seminoles are 3-3 overall (ACC 1-2) on the season and head coach Mike Norvell’s hot seat continues to experience a rise in temperature. Another dominant win for the Hurricanes would likely keep them among the top of the Associated Press’ Top 25.
After sitting out the weekend, with hopes of players returning from injury, the rest of the season returns to usual business.
