Most overrated/underrated teams in Week 6 coaches poll

Week 6 of the college football landscape changed the narrative around certain teams and really started to clarify who might be the cream of the crop in the sport. In a higlhy anticipated SEC clash, the Georgia Bulldogs took down Alabama to remain undefeated on the year….and become the new No. 1 in the latest edition of the coaches poll. Meanwhile, in an enthralling Red River showdown, unranked Oklahoma stunned former No. 1 Texas at the buzzer to put doubt into the minds of Longhorns fans about their true CFP chances. Meanwhile, the Big Ten continues to remain weird as the only undefeated teams are Indiana and…UCLA? Here are the most overrated and underrated teams in the ranking.

Overrated: No. 6 Texas

For the second time this year, the Longhorns find themselves on this list. All the flaws that teams like Ohio State and Tennessee seemingly exposed came to light against Oklahoma, and this time their luck ran out. Arch Manning was up and down all day long and the Longhorns seemingly abandoned the run game in the second half. Without that balance, the Sooners took advantage and escaped with a potentially season-saving win. For the Longhorns, what with games against Ole Miss, LSU, and Missouri coming up on their schedule, they either have a chance to rebound…or completely crumble.

Underrated: No. 12 UCLA

It's time to start talking about these feisty Bruins for real this time. Bob Chesney has worked wonders for this squad and for the first time this season, they had an opportunuty for a ranked win and got it. Sure, Oregon did not have Dante Moore at the helm and Dylan Raiola came back down to earth after his USC performance, but UCLA showed something that may have been missing from last year's team: grit. They had their own QB problems to overcome with Nico Iamaleava going down early but Bob Chesney's guys came together and got a statement win that should put the rest of the Big Ten on notice.

Overrated: No. 21 LSU

How the mighty have fallen. It was initially believe that Lane Kiffin could be the coach that finally led LSU back to the CFP. However, that does not look to be the case. After losing to his former school two weeks, LSU laid another mulligan this time against Kentucky, who while are having a good season, are not the kind of team LSU should be losing to. The defense looked bad yet agains and Sam Leavitt did not look like the guy who had any answers at QB. The Tigers still have four ranked games left, so there's no telling how bad it could get.

Underrated: No. 11 Utah

Oct 10, 2026; Salt Lake City, Utah, USA; Utah Utes tight end Semi Taulanga (99) celebrates after a win over the Kansa Jayhawks at Rice-Eccles Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Aaron Baker-Imagn Images

It doesn't hurt to throw a Big 12 team onto this list, simply because the conference has been more competitive that it first appeared. While the big favorites in in both Texas Tech and BYU have taken care of business early, it's time to talk about the Utes. Morgan Scalley has done a fantastic job of keeping this team competitive and fiery. Devon Dampier has been one of the msot underrated QBs in the nation. Wayshawn Parker looks like the next great college football running back. If your team's already out of the playoff picture andyou want someone a bit different from the norm to root for, look no further than the Utes.

Overrated: No. 25 Oregon

Oct 10, 2026; Eugene, Oregon, USA; Oregon Ducks wide receiver Evan Stewart (7) celebrates scoring a touchdown during the second half with tight end Jamari Johnson (9) during a game against the UCLA Bruins at Autzen Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Troy Wayrynen-Imagn Images

Is it really helpful to keep Oregon in the rankings simply because of their brand? While they still have a ranked win on their resume, it came against a Group of 6 squad. However, what makes the voters' decisions even more puzzling is the fact that Dylan Raiola is now the QB tasked with keeping Oregon relevant and he just stunk up the joint against UCLA. The fact that the Ducks are still hanging around in the polls is embarrassing considering the nature of their losses and the state of the team itself.
