In one of the biggest road games of the season, the USC Trojans came out on top. Some of their best performers were freshmen. Reinforcements returned for this game, and it was amazing to see Trent Mosley back in action; he dominated. Luke Wafle has improved. He produced one of the most important defensive plays of this game.
Here is my breakdown of how each of the true freshmen for the Trojans fared in Week 6:
Trent Mosley, receiver
Trent Mosley, after missing some time, looked exactly like the same player in his return. Mosley had 9 catches for 111 yards and a big-play touchdown. It is no secret that this Trojans offense is at its best when Mosley is on the field, and this week proved that. Mosley could very well be the key to USC getting a bigger win this season.
Boobie Feaster, receiver
Boobie Feaster did not have his breakout game as I predicted, and it was another less impactful game. Feaster finished the game with just 1 catch and 11 yards. Even with the Trojans' weapons getting healthier, I still want to see him get more involved moving forward.
Kayden Dixon-Wyatt, receiver
The targets and production went down for the stud receiver Kayden Dixon-Wyatt; however, he still found his way into the end zone again. Maiava looks to him a lot for that touchdown play; so far this season, Dixon-Wyatt has come up big for Maiava more often than not. Dixon-Wyatt had 2 catches for 28 yards and a touchdown in the win against Penn State.
Jaimeon Winfield, defensive tackle
Winfield is getting more opportunities and getting added into the defensive rotation. Against Penn State, he had just 1 tackle in the game, but he is a guy who is building trust and confidence with his coaching staff. A big game could be on the horizon for Winfield. As could his first collegiate sack.
Luke Wafle, defensive end
Wafle is now becoming a more complete defensive end. He has now had back-to-back weeks with sacks. Against Penn State, Wafle had 5 total tackles, 1 sack, and 1.5 tackles for a loss. This is exactly what the Trojans have been needing from the young game-changer.
