Saturday night in Week 7 proved that high school football still holds the power to shock the crowd. While college teams stumbled in the rain, our local kids showed up with pure fire. The numbers from Yahoo Sports paint a clear picture of dominance across the state. You do not need a crystal ball to see who is carrying the torch this season.

Logan Heisel of Saltillo completed 21 of 39 passes for 321 yards and four touchdowns. That kind of volume is rare at any level. Jordan Shields from Booneville rushed for 90 yards and scored four times on just 13 carries. When you see a player move the ball that often, you know the defense had no answer. Knox Hensley of Tupelo Christian completed every single one of his four passes for 150 yards. That averages out to 37.5 yards per completion. Drew Dean of Tupelo threw for 178 yards with an average of 25.4 yards per catch and four scores. Joshua Long of Bruce tossed five touchdowns in a game that felt like a highlight reel. According to Yahoo Sports, these young men are rewriting the record books right before our eyes.

Grayson Blakney of Tishomingo County added 92 rushing yards and three touchdowns while throwing for 127 more. He did it all. Kross Avent of East Webster also balanced the attack with 150 passing yards and 40 rushing yards. The talent pool is deep. Every team has a weapon that can change the game in a single play.

Defensive Standouts and Big Plays

While the offense grabbed the headlines, the defense made the game-winning stops. A.J. Curbow of New Albany forced two fumbles and returned one for a touchdown. That is the kind of play that swings momentum instantly. Jayden Foster of New Albany recorded seven tackles, two sacks, and two tackles for loss. D.J. Sanderson of Saltillo made 17 tackles, a number that shows he was everywhere on the field.

Nathan Cornelison of Tupelo Christian returned a punt 38 yards for a score while blocking a field goal. Mikilynn Barr of Shannon grabbed two interceptions to stop the other team’s drive. These are the moments that define a season. The stats from Yahoo Sports show that the best players on both sides of the ball are ready for the playoffs.

Rushing Dominance Across the Board

The running backs did the heavy lifting for their teams. Kylen Knox of New Albany rushed for 173 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries. Dakarai Coffey of East Webster ran for 90 yards and three scores. Sawyer Malone of Tupelo Christian gained 98 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries. That efficiency is what wins championships. Ashton Peters of Alcorn Central rushed for 61 yards and two scores while making 12 tackles.
