The Kansas football defense struggled to contain Utah after halftime, allowing approximately 335 yards of offense in the second half of Saturday's 41-24 loss to the Utes. After entering halftime down just four points, the Jayhawks could not find enough defensive stops to complete their comeback attempt against one of the Big 12's top teams.

According to the official Kansas Athletics game statistics, Utah finished with 545 total yards, including 287 rushing yards and 258 passing yards. Kansas had held the Utes to 210 yards in the first half, meaning Utah produced approximately 335 yards after the break.

The Jayhawks entered halftime trailing 21-17 after a late rally that included an interception by Jalen Todd, a six-yard touchdown run from quarterback Isaiah Marshall and a field goal as time expired. That momentum gave Kansas an opportunity to challenge Utah in the second half, but the defense struggled to maintain its first-half performance.

Utah opened the second half with a lengthy drive that lasted more than seven minutes. The Utes marched 82 yards on 15 plays before quarterback Devon Dampier connected with Ricky Johnson for a short touchdown. Kansas managed to block the extra-point attempt, keeping the score at 27-17.

The Jayhawks responded offensively when Marshall found Nik McMillan for a 29-yard touchdown, cutting Utah's advantage to 27-24 late in the third quarter. However, Kansas could not get the defensive stop it needed to take control of the game.

Utah answered with another 75-yard drive, capped by a one-yard touchdown pass to Semi Taulanga. The score extended the Utes' lead to 34-24 and put additional pressure on the Kansas offense.

The biggest defensive breakdown came shortly afterward. After Kansas failed to convert on fourth-and-goal, Utah running back Wayshawn Parker broke free for a 90-yard touchdown run. The explosive play pushed the lead to 41-24 and effectively put the game out of reach.

Parker finished with 171 rushing yards and two touchdowns, giving Kansas a difficult challenge throughout the contest. The Jayhawks struggled to contain Utah's ground game, particularly when the Utes found space for explosive plays.

According to KU Sports' recap of the loss, Kansas also had trouble finishing defensive possessions after Utah crossed into scoring territory.

Kansas now falls to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in Big 12 play. The Jayhawks must regroup quickly before facing in-state rival Kansas State on Saturday morning. Improving tackling, limiting explosive runs and finding ways to get off the field on third and fourth downs will be important priorities.
