Georgia football went on the road and beat Alabama Saturday night with running back Dwight Phillips stepping up in a big way as Nate Frazier was unable to go with injured ribs.

The No. 1 Bulldogs are dealing with several notable injuries heading into a week seven game Saturday at home against Auburn.

“We're a beat up football team right now, guys,” coach Kirby Smart said after the 20-17 win over Alabama. “We've got guys out left and right.”

Georgia played its third straight game without Isiah Canion, the transfer wide receiver from Georgia Tech who Smart said Monday is dealing with "a lower extremity injury."

Canion was listed as questionable last week on the SEC Availability Report before being downgraded Friday to out.

The Bulldogs were also without wide receiver Thomas Blackshear, who was injured in the win over Vanderbilt on Oct. 3.

Blackshear is out with a broken collarbone, according to ABC on Saturday night’s broadcast.

The average return to play for contact sports for a broken collarbone is 8 to 12 weeks, according to an Instagram post by Dr. Mike Galbraith, a Texas-based sports medicine physician.

Freshman Craig Dandridge played a season-high 55 snaps with Blackshear and Canion out.

"We had to go all week kind of not knowing on Isiah," Smart said Monday. "How does it affect you? You talk to Mike (Bobo), you talk to the offensive staff, it's frustrating because you don't really know who's in and who's out. You're trying to make decisions. We thought Nate was going to be able to play. That was a surprise to us. Isiah, we knew it would be close, maybe or maybe not. It just makes it hard because you can't get enough reps for guys."

Phillips rushed for a career-high 120 yards on 17 carries against Alabama with Frazier and Chauncey Bowens sidelined.

Bowens leads the team in rushing touchdowns. He sustained an undisclosed injury against Vanderbilt.

Frazier missed the Oklahoma game after being injured at Arkansas and returned to get two second-half carries against Vanderbilt.

He was not listed on the availability report all last week, but warmed up and did not play Saturday. ABC’s Holly Rowe said he made a quick cutting move and needed attention from the training staff.

Phillips was asked Monday if he had an idea that Frazier wouldn’t be able to go or was surprised.

“That’s probably a Kirby Smart question,” he said with a smile.
