Kentucky Wildcats quarterback Kenny Minchey came into Lexington as an unknown to the college football world.
A former blue-chip recruit out of Hendersonville, TN, Minchey transferred to Kentucky after three seasons at Notre Dame. That is why Marcus Freeman is one of the few people who really knew what they were getting when Minchey transferred to UK.
That is why seeing Minchey lead UK to a 5-1 record with two top-10 wins really has his former head coach fired up.
“I am not surprised one bit,” Freeman said about Minchey’s success so far this season. “I did get home in time to watch maybe the last two minutes of that Kentucky [vs. LSU] game. You talk about a proud coach. Man, I couldn’t be more proud for him.”
Freeman continued:
“I seen him in previous weeks, as I watched his two-minute situations as you watch other teams. Kenny is a dang good quarterback and a heck of a football player. I’m not surprised one bit he’s having the success he’s having. I hope he continues to have that success, and that program does too.”
For Minchey, it has to be cool to hear these comments from his former coach. It also has to be great to be the starting QB for a top-15 team in the playoff hunt.
We didn’t know what we had in Minchey, but so far he is crushing it.
