Two straight losses — including the recent humbling on homecoming at the hands of the South Carolina Gamecocks — have Florida football falling in the postseason predictions after Week 6. Not long ago, the Gators were projected for a College Football Playoff appearance; now, they are back with the rest of the pack among the mid-tier bowl games.

According to Sports Illustrated staff writer Bryan Fischer in his latest bowl game projections, Jon Sumrall and Co. are expected to participate in the ReliaQuest Bowl against Penn State.

Florida is undefeated in three tries against Penn State — all during the postseason — dating back to 1962, when the Orange and Blue earned a 17-7 victory in the Gator Bowl. UF also prevailed in the 1997 Citrus Bowl, 21-6, and the 2010 Outback Bowl, 37-24.

Speaking of the Outback Bowl, while the Gators have never participated in the ReliaQuest Bowl, they have played in its immediate predecessor five times, holding a 3-2 record in the event. Otherwise, they have not competed in either of the other two iterations of the postseason event: the Cigar Bowl and Hall of Fame Bowl.
