Utah hosted one of the more heavily recruited quarterbacks in the 2028 class this past weekend when Treyvone Towns Jr. made the trip to Salt Lake City for the Utes’ matchup against Kansas.

The 6-foot-3, 205-pound quarterback out of Rancho Cucamonga (CA) already holds an impressive offer list that includes Georgia, Ohio State, Florida, Tennessee, Penn State, Nebraska, Washington, Arkansas, Arizona State, Indiana, Kentucky, SMU, Purdue, Texas Tech, Virginia Tech, and others.

Towns came away impressed with his experience at Rice-Eccles Stadium, particularly the atmosphere surrounding Utah’s undefeated football program.

“The game day environment, sold out stadium and all the diehard fans who were in attendance was impressive,” Towns told me.

Following the game, Towns had the opportunity to visit Utah’s locker room, where he connected with quarterbacks coach Gunderson.

“He encouraged me to continue working hard and he would be visiting my high school once the season was over,” Towns said.

One of the biggest takeaways from his visit was Utah’s offensive creativity, specifically the way the coaching staff utilized quarterbacks Devon Dampier and Byrd Ficklin together against Kansas.

“Dampier and Ficklin are obviously two very dynamic quarterbacks who can give opposing defenses headaches. It’s genius the way the coaching staff uses both of them at the same time to expand the offensive scheme.”

Towns was particularly impressed with how difficult Utah’s offensive balance made things for the Kansas defense.

“I really like the balance of the offense, it kept Kansas guessing which is difficult to play fast as a defense.”

With Utah now sitting at 5-0 under first-year head coach Morgan Scalley, Towns also had high praise for the direction of the program.

“With Coach Scalley inheriting the HC position and being an assistant at Utah in the past, he’s played a huge part in building that winning culture that’s been around for years. The program is definitely in good hands.”

For a quarterback with scholarship opportunities from some of the biggest programs in college football, Towns’ visit offered an opportunity to see Utah’s offense and coaching staff firsthand.

Between the game day atmosphere, his conversation with Gunderson and the creativity of Utah’s two-quarterback system, the Utes made a strong impression on the nationally recruited 2028 prospect.
