ESPN's Computer Releases National Title Pick After Regular Season

ESPN's computer model has finalized its national title pick following the 2025 regular season.

The 2025 college football regular season came to a close on Saturday. It was an eventful one. Ohio State, Indiana, Georgia, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Oregon, Texas Tech and Notre Dame feel like locks to make the College Football Playoff. Other teams, like Alabama, Oklahoma, BYU, Miami, Vanderbilt, James Madison and more, are officially in the hunt heading into championship weekend.

But who will end up holding the College Football Playoff national title trophy at the end of the season?

Kirk Herbstreit on GameDay.ESPN.

ESPN's computer model, the Football Power Index, released its official national title prediction on Sunday night:

  • Ohio State vs. Indiana

The Buckeyes would be favored over the Hoosiers, but ever so slightly. ESPN's computer is picking an Ohio State repeat.

How does ESPN's computer model work?

ESPN's computer model, the Football Power Index, is a projection-based model.

"The Football Power Index (FPI) is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team's performance going forward for the rest of the season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Projected results are based on 20,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule. Ratings and projections update daily. FPI data from seasons prior to 2019 may not be complete," ESPN writes.
