Missouri QB Austin Simmons gets shot at his former team in key SEC showdown.

Missouri football has put together an incredible start to the season thanks in large part to the play of quarterback Austin Simmons.

Now, Simmons gets his shot at not only a big win, but revenge.

The Tigers take on Ole Miss in a key SEC showdown this Saturday. The game might be flying a bit under the radar with Indiana-Ohio State and Notre Dame-BYU on the docket, but this one should present plenty of fireworks.

Austin Simmons Was The Ole Miss Starter Before An Injury

Last year, Simmons was set to lead Lane Kiffin’s offense for the Rebels. However, he was injured early in the year and Trinidad Chambliss stepped in.

The rest was history, as Chambliss led Ole Miss to the College Football Playoffs and Kiffin exited for LSU.

Simmons, though, found his new home just a few states away.

Over the first six games, he has led Missouri to a 5-1 record, throwing for 1,434 yards and 14 touchdowns. Simmons has completed 107 of 165 with just one interception.

Not only is Simmons football-smart, but he is also book-smart, as well.

The former Florida high school star earned his associate degree before turning 17 and while still in high school. He completed his bachelor’s degree from Ole Miss in 2025.

Missouri Has Looked Strong Since Loss To Mississippi State

After topping Troy and Kansas, the Tigers suffered a tough 31-24 setback to Mississippi State. Simmons had a big game in defeat, throwing for 295 yards and three touchdowns.

Since that loss, the Tigers have been unstoppable. They rolled Florida, 45-17, and crushed Texas A&M last week,2 7-6.

Both of those games, though, came at home. Now, they have to hit the road like the Mississippi State game.

Simmons Not A One-Man Show For Missouri

In addition to Simmons, Jamal Roberts has rushed for over 800 yards and eight touchdowns while Cayden Lee has turned into a true No. 1 wide receiver.

Lee followed Simmons from Ole Miss, catching 42 passes for 616 yards and five TDs. He had over 100 receptions and 1,400 yards for the Rebels in two-plus seasons.

The Tigers will need to try and slow Chambliss and company down. The Heisman Trophy candidate has 1,435 yards and 11 touchdowns, handling things as Kewan Lacy recovers from an injury.
