Indiana football joins elite Big Ten group with perfect regular season

BLOOMINGTON — Indiana football capped off the program’s first perfect season with a 56-3 win over Purdue at Ross-Ade Stadium Friday, Nov. 28.
The No. 2 Hoosiers (12-0, 9-0 Big Ten) have gone through an unprecedented turnaround under coach Curt Cignetti, who inherited a program that won just three games over Power Five opponents in the three years before he was hired.
They are spending this week preparing for their first appearance in the Big Ten title game.
“That’s absolute, regardless of what happens from here on it,” Cignetti said. “This team will always be the first to go undefeated in the regular season.”
Cignetti offered one of his trademark winks when talking about the short list of teams that have accomplished the feat.
How exclusive is the list? Indiana is the sixth program in the conference to finish the season with an undefeated record over the last four decades and this was only the 13th time it’s happened during that span. Ohio State accounts for half of those after finishing this season with an identical record as the Hoosiers.
