Where Oregon's defense, special teams rank nationally after Week 14

The Oregon Ducks‘ defense has been one of the best in the nation this season, deeming a performance of holding the Washington Huskies to just 14 points an expected outcome. Yet it’s still extremely impressive, as the Huskies have a number of talented players that teams have struggled to corral that the Ducks did on Saturday.

Coming into the game, quarterback Demond Williams Jr. was a focus for defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi‘s unit. He was sacked four times and was repeatedly pressured, scrambling and slipping out of several would-be sackers. That was the plan all along: pressure Williams. Mission accomplished, as it also led to him tossing a pair of interceptions.

The special teams unit has also been rock solid for much of the season and was even better against Washington, as kicker Atticus Sappington nailed four field goals including a career-long 51-yarder that barely scaled through the uprights. When his number was called, Sappington has delivered this season in big ways.

With the defense and special teams standing out on Saturday, let’s take a look at where they rank nationally in key stats after Week 14.
