The most loaded Saturday yet of the 2026 college football season will have a proper nightcap — and a picturesque backdrop, with the Wasatch Range towering in the distance.
No. 2 Notre Dame and No. 8 BYU will put their undefeated records on the line when the Fighting Irish travel to Provo, Utah to take on the Cougars in a highly anticipated Week 7 matchup on Saturday, Oct. 17 at LaVell Edwards Stadium.

Notre Dame and BYU are just two of eight remaining unbeaten teams from one of the sport's major conferences (or, in the Irish's case, the independent ranks).
Points could be at a premium in the matchup. The Irish (11 points allowed per game) and Cougars (13.4) are two of the top 10 scoring defenses in the country, with the former at No. 4 and the latter tied at No. 8.
There's still the potential for some offensive fireworks, though. Notre Dame is also fourth in the FBS in scoring offense, at 44 points a game, thanks in some part to the productive pairing of quarterback CJ Carr (1,378 passing yards, 16 touchdowns, one interception) and a pair of excellent wide receivers in Jordan Faison (387 receiving yards, four touchdowns) and Micah Gilbert (378 yards, two touchdowns). BYU will counter with an offense built around dual-threat quarterback Bear Bachmeier (1,272 total yards, 12 touchdowns), though the Cougars are expected to be without all-conference running back LJ Martin, who is nursing a lower body injury.
Saturday's game will be the 10th all-time matchup between the programs, and just the second since 2013. Notre Dame leads the all-time series, 7-2, including a 28-20 victory in Oct. 2022 in the most recent meeting.
