Ohio State's Julian Sayin Out Several Weeks After Injury Against Indiana

Ohio State Buckeyes star quarterback Julian Sayin exited the game with an apparent right-arm injury against the Indiana Hoosiers in the fourth quarter and was seen in a sling.

After the game, head coach Ryan Day said Sayin will be out for several weeks against the Hoosiers. Before leaving the game, Sayin completed 15 of 29 passes for 235 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions.

It wasn't Sayin's best performance, but he did enough to put the Buckeyes in position to win, including a clutch touchdown pass to Jeremiah Smith on 4th-and-1 at the 38-yard line.

In seven games this season, Sayin has completed 68.2 percent of his passes for 2,007 yards, 19 touchdowns, and four interceptions. With Sayin out for multiple weeks, he could miss some tough games in the near future.

Ohio State is entering their bye week, but after that, they take on the No. 19 USC Trojans, the Oregon Ducks, the No. 25 Northwestern Wildcats, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, and the Michigan Wolverines.

It's a tough stretch of games for the Buckeyes, and with their starting quarterback, it will be difficult. Luke Fahey took over for Ohio State to end the game against Indiana, and he didn't complete either of his two pass attempts.

In four games in the 2026 season, Fahey has completed nine of 13 passes (69.2 percent) for 203 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. Fahey is a freshman and doesn't have a ton of experience on the field, but could now become a pivotal part of the season for the Buckeyes.

Ohio State will need him to form a quick connection with Smith. Smith has proven to be the best player in college football and a Heisman Trophy contender. Through seven games, he has hauled in 52 receptions for 984 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Smith can get open against almost any defense, making him a great target for a new quarterback like Fahey.

Bo Jackson and the run game will also play a key role, as he's rushed for 516 yards and four touchdowns while catching 11 passes for 71 yards and a touchdown. They will need to lean more on Jackson in the upcoming games to make things easier on Fahey.

The Buckeyes have one of the best teams in the country and could still be a contender to win the National Championship, but they will need to win games while Sayin is on the sideline recovering from his injury.
