Kayd Coffman led East Kentwood to the Michigan high school football Division state semifinals.
Now, he’s sticking with his college commitment of Michigan State football.
Coffman, a four-star quarterback in the 2026 recruiting class, tweeted Monday morning: “Thank you Coach Smith and the staff for believing in me. With that being said I will be signing this Wednesday. Go Green! #SD4L“
The early signing period for recruiting opens Wednesday.
Coffman is the No. 5 player in the state in 2026, according to the 247 Sports’ composite ranking, the No. 25 quarterback and No. 364 overall player in his class.
MSU fired coach Jonathan Smith on Sunday, one day after a 4-8 season ended. MSU on Monday hired ex-Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald.
Coffman and the Falcons (10-3) lost to eventual state champion Novi Detroit Catholic Central, 46-6, on Nov. 22.

But Coffman had a stellar senior season, helping East Kentwood win its first district title since 2014 by torching Howell in a 49-41 road win Nov. 8. In that game, Coffman went 16-for-22 for 372 yards and five touchdowns, and ran nine times for 96 yards.
Catholic Central standout receiver and track star Samson Gash, a four-star MSU commit ranked No. 6 in his class in Michigan, said Sunday night after winning the state title he will not sign this week.
MSU also has a commitment from North Branch offensive tackle Eli Bickel, a four-star recruit and No. 7 player in the state in the 2026 class.
