In double overtime on 4th and 21, Ashton Daniels drops back and throws a Hail Mary to Micahi Danzy for a touchdown, but the flag comes out. A holding call negated the Florida State Seminoles' touchdown, potentially forcing a third overtime.
The Seminoles were moved back 10 yards and threw another Hail Mary, but this time it was intercepted. Florida State lost 43-35 to No. 1 Miami in double overtime.
Norvell said he spoke with ACC Supervisor of Football Officials Gary Patterson but hasn't heard back.
“The holding call. It was an absolute joke,” Norvell said. “I have not heard (Gary Patterson’s) review of it. I’ve got a lot of respect for the job everybody has. The same thing happened a few plays earlier that was not called. But at that moment, that play, it’s just a shame. It really is,” Novell said.
“We had to go convert the 2-point play. But for those kids to not be able to finish the game on the field, at that moment, it’s really disappointing. There are a lot of judgment calls in all things, but that was bad. I haven’t gotten the final response from them, but if it’s anything less than what I said, it tells me everything I need to know.”
Novell also mentioned how the "simultaneous possession never came up in the conversation of review" on Miami defensive back Bryce Fitzgerald's interception.
The Hurricanes were on the ropes, trailing 21-14 going into the fourth quarter, before a late surge helped them outlast the Seminoles.
Florida State (3-4) heads into a bye week before they face the Clemson Tigers at home Saturday, October 31 (7:30 p.m. ET, ACC Network).
