The Clemson Tigers enter this week's game against the Virginia Tech Hokies looking to put together a consistent performance.
After taking down Georgia Southern last week, the Tigers will try to get another win this year. Clemson holds a record of 4-2 coming into the matchup, with the team dropping both games against top-ranked teams.
Virginia Tech will be entering the game with a record of 5-2, giving each side a chance to grab another ACC win. Both sides are still alive in the ACC race, and getting a win in this game could give each team more momentum for ther rest of the season.
Ahead of the game, the Tigers have been given a decent chance to come away with the win over Virginia Tech. According to ESPN's game predictor, Clemson has been given a 55.9 chance to take down the Hokies at home this week.
One aspect of the game that Clemson has to figure out heading into the week is the play at the quarterback position. The Tigers have struggled throwing the ball this year, no matter who has been under center for the team.
Starter Tait Reynolds hasn't been able to generate enough for Clemson to fully trust him each week, and it's been a real problem. Even last week against Georgia Southern, Reynolds was only able to throw for 178 yards with no touchdown passes.
For the season, Reynolds has thrown for 943 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions. This just won't get the job done, and Reynolds is going to have to prove himself this week against the Hokies.
Clemson can help Reynolds out by keeping the running game going strong, with Gideon Davidson playing well this year. Davidson has rushed for 430 yards with five touchdowns this season, giving the team a boost offensively.
But overall, the Tigers need more from the entire offense, and this could give them some trouble against Virginia Tech. The offense generated 340.7 yards per game, which is ranked 110th in the nation.
The Hokies come into the game averaging 451.3 yards per game, which is 25th in the country. So, unless the Tigers are able to keep up with Virginia Tech, this could be a worrisome game for the program.
Head coach Dabo Swinney is going to have to change something with this offense, giving it a jolt in some way. Kickoff for the game between Clemson and Virginia Tech is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. PT/7:00 p.m. ET at Memorial Stadium.
