New Auburn head coach Alex Golesh is already adding players to the roster. On Monday, 2026 three-star tight end Demarcus Broughton Jr. committed to the Auburn Tigers.
On X (formerly Twitter), he made the announcement saying, “After a great conversation with Coach Golesh, I will be joining the Auburn Tigers Family! Thank you Coach Golesh and the rest of the Auburn coaching staff!”
Broughton is an in-state prospect from Semmes, Alabama, where he attends Mary G. Montgomery High School. He helped lead the Vikings to a 10-2 season and to the second round of the AHSAA 7A Playoffs. For his senior season, Broughton caught 32 passes for 497 yards and seven touchdowns.
He originally committed to South Florida on June 8, but decommitted on Sunday when Golesh was named the new Auburn head coach. The Tigers had shown interest in Broughton under the previous coaching staff and had offered him on Sept. 7.
The tight end position is a need for the Tigers with starter Brandon Frazier a senior, and the struggles of Preston Howard. Frazier dealt with injuries during the season, and Howard had issues catching and controlling the football at times. At 6-5 and 220 pounds, Broughton will be a big target for whoever plays quarterback for the Tigers.
Broughton is rated by 247Sports as the No. 57 player in Alabama. Currently, the 2026 class ranks No. 78 with 11 players committed. Keeping those recruits with the Tigers will be another task of many for Golesh as he takes over the Auburn program.
