The Maryland Terrapins are parting ways with head coach Mike Locksley after a measly 2-5 start, ESPN's Pete Thamel announced Wednesday.

The team met Wednesday morning to learn the news, per Pete Thamel. Bazaar Abdul-Rahim will take over as interim head coach. Abdul-Rahim has DMV ties, similar to Locksley.

Maryland comes off a last-second homecoming loss to Rutgers, extending their losing streak to five. The Terrapins last won on September 12, beating UCONN 38-14.

Locksley was hired in December 2018. He spent three seasons at Alabama before returning to the Terrapins. In 2018, Locksley won the Broyles Award as the nation's top assistant coach and served as the Tide's offensive coordinator. His overall record at Maryland was 39-54.

A highlight of Locksley's tenure in College Park is when the Terps beat Auburn in the 2023 Music City Bowl and finished 8-5. In his last two seasons, Maryland went 4-8, and since 2024, they are 2-20 in the Big Ten. Locksley hasn't defeated a ranked opponent in over a year.

Maryland will owe Locksley over $9 million in buyout money even if he lands a new job. He was making $6.4 million this season.

The Terrapins head into a bye week and will play their first game under Abdul-Rahim as they face Illinois at home on Saturday, October 31 (12 p.m. BI, FS1).
