Ohio State took a major win over the weekend, as the Buckeyes knocked off Indiana 19-15. During the win, Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin was injured. Later, head coach Ryan Day announced that Sayin will be out indefinitely for Ohio State and could miss the rest of the regular season and the postseason.
As Ohio State has national championship aspirations, losing their starting quarterback is a massive blow. Now, Day is giving some insight into who could be under center when the Buckeyes take the field next, per Jake Trotter of ESPN.com
“We’re going to play the guy that gives us the best chance to win,” Day said. “Going into the last few games, Luke’s been ahead of Tavien in terms of what we’ve seen, but now that we have a bye week, these guys are both going to get a lot of reps, and we’re going to start to put together a plan on how we’re going to move forward. We’re going to play the guy that gives us the best chance to win.”

Ohio State is off this weekend before traveling to play against USC on October 31. Luke Fahey took over for Sayin in the game, going 0-for-2 passing. The true freshman has completed nine of 13 passes this year for 203 yards with tw touchdowns and two interceptions. Tavien St. Clair is a sophomore and appeared in one game last year, going 0-for-2 passing. This year, he is 5-for-7 passing for 52 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
“We wouldn’t have Fahey out there if we didn’t have full trust in him,” senior guard Luke Montgomery said after the game. “Whatever happens with Julian, it’s next man up. … It’s Fahey’s time right now.”
Regardless of who is at quarterback, expectations for Ohio State are to make the playoffs and make a deep run when there. After the week off, Ohio State visits USC. They also have home dates with Oregon, Northwestern, and Michigan, plus a road trip to Nebraska in the last month of the season.
