The Miami Hurricanes flipped a blue-chip linebacker from an SEC program on Wednesday night.

Four-star 2027 linebacker Aston Whiteside chnaged his commitment from Texas A&M to Miami, announcing his decision on social media.

Whiteside, who is listed at 6 foot 2 and 205 pounds, is ranked as the No. 27 linebacker and No. 347 player in the 2027 class, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings.

Whiteside visited UM for its home game against Florida State this past weekend. Prior to the game, he told the South Florida Sun Sentinel he wanted to see a lot of “energy, physicality and competitiveness.”

“It’s a big rivalry game, so I want to see how the team responds to that atmosphere and competes for four quarters,” Whiteside said.

Although Whiteside, a Burleson, Texas, native, committed to Texas A&M on June 1, he said Miami’s staff kept trying to sway him.

“Miami has definitely continued to recruit me hard and show me a lot of love,” Whiteside said last week.

Last season, Whiteside had 46 tackles, three tackles for loss and a forced fumble. This year, he has 91 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, four sacks and one forced fumble. He also has a punt return touchdown.

Whiteside, whose father played in the NFL and CFL, has a high GPA, and the Hurricanes like his maturity and intelligence in addition to his athleticism, a UM source said.

Whiteside joins two other blue-chip linebackers in the Hurricanes’ 2027 class: A.J. Randle Jr. and Noah Glover.
