While the current Miami Hurricanes are on a public relations campaign to explain why they belong in the College Football Playoff, future Hurricanes are preparing to turn their verbal commitments into written pledges.
The annual Early Signing Period begins on Wednesday and runs through Friday, and Miami has 29 recruits poised to sign.
Many members of UM’s class have been committed for months, and the Hurricanes filled out the class — which currently ranks 10th in 247Sports’ composite rankings — with a recent run of pledges.
Miami may add another commit Wednesday, as four-star linebacker Karsten Busch visited UM last weekend after backing off his Louisville pledge. The Hurricanes are also in the mix for Wisconsin running back commit Amari Latimer, according to On3.
Here is a preview of the Hurricanes’ expected signing class (all rankings and ratings are the 247Sports composite unless noted):
Tyson Bacon, defensive lineman
Bacon, an Alabama native, pledged to Miami in June, joining a strong defensive-line class. Bacon is rated a three-star prospect and the No. 103 defensive tackle in the class. Bacon is listed at 6 foot 3 and about 260 pounds.
Israel Briggs, tight end
Briggs comes to Miami from Clovis, California, and he brings an intriguing skill set. Briggs is listed at just over 6-4 and 200 pounds, and he is the No. 17 tight end in the class. A four-star prospect, Briggs projects to be a “brutal matchup for opposing linebackers and safeties in the passing game,” according to 247Sports’ scouting report. Briggs has 525 receiving yards and seven touchdowns as a senior.
Jordan Campbell, defensive lineman
Campbell, one of the few South Floridians in this year’s class, has been Miami’s longest-tenured commit, pledging to UM in November 2023. The Miami Northwestern star has played linebacker but projects as more of a defensive end, according to 247Sports’ scouting report. Campbell, a four-star prospect, is listed as the No. 22 edge rusher and No. 178 player in the class.
Jackson Cantwell, offensive lineman
Cantwell is the gem of the Hurricanes’ class. The five-star prospect is listed as the No. 4 player in the class and No. 1 offensive tackle. Cantwell, who is listed at just over 6-7 and 325 pounds, is a track and field star, earning Gatorade Player of the Year honors in both football and track and field. Like former five-star prospect Francis Mauigoa, Cantwell could slide right into UM’s starting lineup as a freshman.
Asharri Charles, defensive lineman
Charles, a long-time commit, is a versatile four-star prospect from Venice High, and he will be an edge rusher in college. Charles, who is listed as the No. 19 edge rusher and No. 151 player in the class, is listed at 6-2 and 230 pounds. Charles 119 tackles, 28 tackles for loss, 13.5 sacks and four forced fumbles.
Isaac Chukwurah, defensive lineman
Chukwurah joined Miami’s class when he flipped from Penn State following James Franklin’s firing. The 6-foot-2, 265-pound Delaware native is listed as the No. 51 interior defensive lineman in the class and a three-star prospect.
Dereon Coleman, quarterback
Coleman has been a key part of the Hurricanes’ class since he committed in July 2024. The Orlando Jones signal-caller has thrown for 2,391 yards and 25 touchdowns with just one interception. The four-star prospect, who is listed as the No. 19 quarterback in the class, has a 76.3 completion percentage. Coleman has also run for 503 yards and four touchdowns.
Ben Congdon, offensive lineman
Congdon, a 6-7, 285-pound offensive tackle, committed to Miami in March. Congdon, a four-star prospect, is an Ohio native and is listed as the No. 18 offensive tackle and No. 177 player in the class.

Dunnigan was part of the recent wave of Miami commits, picking the Hurricanes after he backed off a commitment to Kansas. Dunnigan, who projects as a safety, is a four-star prospect and is listed as the No. 14 safety and No. 149 player in the class. Dunnigan has 57 tackles and four tackles for loss. On offense, Dunnigan also has 18 catches for 446 yards and nine touchdowns.
Justin Edwards, linebacker
Edwards is a well-built linebacker out of Orlando. The three-star prospect is listed as the No. 58 player at his position in this year’s class. In seven games this season, he had 18 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks.
Joel Ervin, offensive line
Ervin, a 6-foot-5 and 330-pound offensive lineman, has been one of the top rising prospects in UM’s class. When Ervin committed to UM in March, he was the No. 60 offensive tackle and the No. 731 player in the class. Now the Fort Myers native and four-star prospect is the No. 20 interior offensive lineman and No. 291 player in the class.

DeAnthony Lafayette, defensive lineman
Lafayette is a recent addition to UM’s class, committing to Miami after LSU — where he was previously committed — fired coach Brian Kelly. Lafayette is the No. 30 edge rusher in the class and No. 310 prospect. A four-star recruit, Lafayette had 65 tackles, 30 tackles for loss and 19.5 sacks for Orlando-area Lake Nona High. Lafayette projects as a “potential impact rotational rusher,” according to 247Sports’ scouting report.
Javian Mallory, running back
Mallory, one of the two South Florida prospects in the class, has been a star for West Boca Raton High. Mallory was part of the Bulls’ first-ever state title team last year, and he is trying to lead them to a repeat of that now. Mallory, a four-star prospect and No. 27 running back in the class, has 1,114 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns this season, averaging 9.5 yards per carry. He also has four touchdown catches.
Gavin Mueller, tight end
Mueller is one of the most intriguing players in Miami’s class. A recent flip from Colorado, Mueller is projected to play tight end, but he played all over the field in high school. Mueller accounted for 30 touchdowns as a quarterback, running back and tight end. Mueller, a four-star prospect, is the No. 7 tight end and No. 150 prospect in the class.

Camdin Portis, defensive back
Portis is also a Miami legacy; he is the son of former Hurricanes star Clinton Portis. The younger Portis has been in UM’s class since October 2024. A Charlotte native, Portis is the No. 23 cornerback and No. 251 player. The standout defender is an “ultra-competitive (defensive back) that pairs a high football IQ with the desired blend of athleticism and physicality,” according to 247Sports’ scouting report.
Cortez Redding, defensive back
Redding was a much-needed safety addition when he committed in July. Redding is a four-star prospect and the No. 29 safety in the class. Redding had 113 tackles, four tackles for loss and a team-leading four interceptions — edging out fellow UM commit and teammate Jontavius Wyman.
Frederic Sainteus, defensive lineman
Sainteus, a Naples native, is a multi-sport athlete who has also wrestled and competed in track and field. Sainteus had 52 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and four sacks. He is a three-star prospect and is listed as the No. 154 interior lineman in the class.

Jaelan Waters, defensive back
Waters is a standout corner out of Tampa-area powerhouse Armwood High. Waters, a four-star prospect, is listed as the No. 18 corner and No. 145 player in the class. Waters is “likely to thrive in a boundary role in a man-heavy system with his instincts, physicality and overall confidence,” according to his 247Sports scouting report.
Somourian Wingo, wide receiver
Wingo is another North Florida star who decided to come south. The St. Augustine native and four-star prospect is the No. 7 wide receiver and No. 50 player in the class. Wingo had 827 yards and 13 touchdowns on 46 catches, and he ran in three scores, as well. Wingo is a “tough receiver that makes tough catches,” according to his 247Sports scouting report.
