CFP Rankings 12/2: Georgia Tech 22nd

In the final regular season rankings of the 2025 college football season, the College Football Playoff placed Georgia Tech 22nd, moving up one spot after losing to #3 Georgia last weekend. Tech is essentially guaranteed to be ranked going into their bowl game (which will be announced on Sunday) as they do not play another game until then. Of note, the two of the three teams ranked directly behind Tech: North Texas (23rd) and James Madison (25th), both play conference championship games this weekend and could shuffle some more. Iowa (24th) is the only other team not playing this week in the Georgia Tech thru James Madison section of the rankings.

Tech of course has no shot to make the playoff any longer as they are not playing the ACC Championship game.

Our potential bowl game does still depend on what happens this weekend. If Duke beats Virginia, that would likely put Miami and Virginia ahead of Tech in the bowl pecking order. Most projections have Tech in the Pop-Tarts Bowl right now, but that assumes Virginia as the ACC champion and playing in the playoffs.

In the off chance Virginia does lose this weekend and creates the chaos situation, Duke has a +1800 chance to make the playoff per FanDuel. They would likely need help as if James Madison wins the Sun Belt, they would be a higher ranked conference champ, plus the winner of the North Texas/Tulane American championship game would also be higher ranked, ruling the ACC out of an automatic bid entirely.

But, we don’t have to worry about that. We’ll just find out where we’re flying to on Sunday and get ready for whatever that game entails.
