Early Signing Day Tracker: Follow Texas Football's recruiting

The Early National Signing Period is open and official letters of intent are being sent to Texas Football’s office on the UT campus. This is the day committed players officially sign with their team. Of course, there are always a few surprises and flips. We’ll keep track of any that impact the Longhorns.

One big flip happened late last night when Boulder (CO) three-star ATH Toray Davis flipped his commitment from the UCLA Bruins to Texas. The 6-foot-1, 185 pounder is being recruited at defensive back, but he plays multiple positions at Fairview High School.

While Texas won the recruiting battle last year with the No. 1 class, that is unlikely this year. Right now, 247Sports has Texas with the No. 7 ranked recruiting class in the nation. Rivals/On3 also have the Longhorns ranked No. 7. ESPN ranks Texas with the No. 3 class in the country.

The ranking can change throughout the day depending on who signs, who flips and who holds off. Right now, USC has the consensus No. 1 class. Notre Dame, Oregon, Georgia and Alabama are all in the Top 5.

The class is highlighted by five-star quarterback Dia Bell, who was the first prospect to get his LOI to Texas coach Steve Sarkisian’s office. Bell rose in the rankings this summer when he was named the MVP of the Elite 11 quarterback camp this summer. Bell’s season came to an early end, but he should be good to go by spring.

On defense, five-star Richard Wesley is the biggest name. The EDGE famously decommitted from Oregon this summer. The Chatsworth, CA native was one of the standouts at the Rivals Five-Star Challenge this summer.
